1.
You're on top of the mountain ridge A caterpillar on the edge of a leaf You're walking on air But it never gives You're a rambling rose See your eyes looking down Hit your foot it makes a hollow sound You see the stars hidden underground You're a rambling rose See you looking under every stone To find the treasure that no one knows You want to tell the world Everywhere is home You're a rambling rose Trace your hand on the sandstone wall Make your pillow an ice waterfall And you dream about the echoes of a time before You're a rambling rose Yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah You're a rambling rose Make a den under table legs On the rooftop, rocky ledge We all want to be held Like a baby to breast You're a rambling rose Each string is attached to the sun Word placed like a foot on the rung You want to share the music Of those unsung You're a rambling rose Some find solace in the silver rail Stick to the map, stick to the trail But some like you go beyond the pale You're a rambling rose Like the swallows on the telegraph line Bags are packed, you know this time You're gonna show the world We can really fly You're a rambling rose

Jack was a lad from London Town He earned his living working underground Nobody heard him make a sound And the walls came a tumbling down Jill came a rushing down the hill Carrying a bucket of the government's spill Hardly enough to pay the bills And the walls came a tumbling down Away, sending us away We won't go away We're the heart of the town The jewels in the crown Little Johnny kept his finger in the pie He grew a hedge but it grew too high Blocked out everybody else's light And the walls came a tumbling down There's a crook on the Old Kent Road He asks Should we stay? or Should we go? He profits from our fear The seeds he sews And the walls came a tumbling down Take it back, take it back Put it on the right track Sick of the news, sick of the news Inequality Blues I don't care if it looks good Or tastes a little sweeter I just care about love And going a little deeper than the surface

Over the Banks I feel you like roses Deep in my heart I feel you like sunshine And I've opened up my heart for you I've opened up my heart for you Over the hills I see you like a new world Inside Bursting to be free From where you are You have everything you need You are The bright light in this city Away in my heart I'll be Away in my heart I'll be Away in my heart I'll be
4.
There's a heart in a stone Found on the hill alone I'm bringing it to you To bring you home A feather in a glass Brought by my daughter I'll put it in my window To see you I'll see you in the light I'll see you in the light Swifts fly under the eaves Underneath the damson tree We are lying on white sheets You and me Put on your gramophone Glad we're both home And we're dancing In the living room All of my life I thought love would last forever I wrote it all down for you Deep in your heart Love lasts forever You know it's true
5.
Dandelions growing there In the field above the lane Cows are rushing round Like children in a game I see my true love standing there With our baby in her arms I keep smiling to myself I count my lucky stars It's over the green and the green and the green Jump the ridge and furrow to your dreams It's over the green and the green and the green Slip between the seven oak trees Kiss me in the long grass Touch the naked tree The church is standing like a mast Upon a green sea Who would have thought we used to walk In fair old London Town It's under the bridge and down the Thames The Market Porter bound It's over the sand and through the hills We found our special place Up the tracks to the waterfall I still remember his face When he spoke I saw he had a twinkle in his eye "Each moment is a blessing with your true love by your side!"

It's over, over the sea You might find me, you might find me It's over, over the sea I might find you, might find you Standing on the rooftop counting stars The dreams you had carried you this far There are diamonds on the shore Like dew in the grass Each one holds the sun Holds the sun The first steps you took were on concrete Inside you carry the sea Little Princes Coming back, coming back, coming back home Little Princes Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back home There's a man with desert eyes Who sees the trucks passing by In the blink of a camel's eye Into the black of an African sky You'd pay all the money in the world To keep your family safe from harm It feels like You've been walking for a lifetime Feels like Just want to be still Feel my heart inside Warm like sunshine Gonna share the love that I feel
8.
Green Man 05:08
There's fire in your eyes Can't believe we fell for the lies We're running through field and glen To get back home where the river bends There's silver in the leaves Feather's standing in the breeze There's healing for you and me The ghost white bark is still a mystery Sunlight Touches the ground Scattered flowers, golden crowns The Pied Piper is back again Hopping and skipping like an old friend Tread lightly on the earth Holding you Feel the sun at your back in the morning Warming you Hear the bird song in your heart It'll carry you See his smiling face as he runs to your arms He loves you Feels like coming home Feels like coming home When the machines of the city broke The factories stopped their big black smoke Where the hills grow wild And where we used to roam When the machines of the city broke We found our way back home It feels like it's been such a long time You heard the rattle and hum of the city line The concrete feels strange underfoot You've been walking in grasslands, in the woods Each tree is a beacon of hope You're the Green Man in the big smoke You look up see the moon in the sky He's really singing about the new tide
9.
Tiger Tree 04:24
Bring me fire Bring me love Bring me an angel Flying from above now Walk the red path Bracken's high Babe on my back We're gonna see the sky now Feel the cold wind Blowing around my soul Got to let it go, got to let it go Feel the cold wind Blowing around my soul Got to let it go, got to let it go Rolling thunder Strange dreams Two foxes in a fairyland scene You hold the power Inside you The tree on the mountain Putting down it's roots now There's a green moss under my feet On the forbidden land There's a freezing fog on the hill tonight Treasure's on the ground Holding on to you so tight I won't let you fall Underneath the tiger tree I've been here before

about

My own walks in the Cheshire countryside and the writings of Robert Macfarlane inspired the title track of the album 'Rambling Rose'. This theme of returning back to nature is prevalent throughout the songs on this album. But some songs also reflect the turbulent times we've experienced in the last few years. 'Inequality Blues' was inspired by the Grenfell Tower fire in London, a call to stop governments putting profit first and people last. The song 'Little Princes' is reflecting on the incredible journeys refugees make to find a safe haven. Some songs, like 'Green Man', reflect on my personal experience of the pandemic.
